The Rebel’s Guide – Get An Imperfect Job - Wednesday
Today’s Verse
Colossians 3:23
“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (NLT)
Yesterday, we talked about the Great Commission and Jesus’s call on our lives to be disciples who make disciples. Some of you might think, “Sure! I’d love to share Jesus as my job, but I’m not working in full-time ministry. I just ______.”
Friend, Colossians 3:23 tells us to, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (Emphasis added.) It doesn’t matter whether you’re a cashier at a fast-food restaurant, a lawyer, or a stay-at-home mom. You can honor God and share the Gospel of Jesus wherever you are, with whomever you meet.
Maybe you desire something in your life to look different, and think, “I’ll be able to honor God well when _____.” When I finish this project, heal from my addiction, get a new job, get married, have a kid, get out of debt… it doesn’t matter what fills that blank.
God is not in the business of hiding His will from us, as though we have to play a constant guessing game of which door to look behind in hopes that is where we will find Him. No—instead He offers us one step at a time, right in front of our eyes. In this way, we follow Him.
What is right in front of you today? Who? If you want to step into God’s will for your life, step faithfully into the day He has given you. Work willingly at whatever you do, to the glory of God. Love the people He has put around you. Ask for forgiveness when you make mistakes and take another step back toward Jesus.
REFLECTION
In Sunday’s sermon, Scott said, “Worship is demonstrating who God is and what He has done through who we are and what we do.” Does your life reflect worship to the Lord in this way? How could this perspective shift your approach to work?
