The Rebel’s Guide – Get An Imperfect Job - Friday

Today’s Verse

Proverbs 16:3

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” (NIV)

Some days are… really hard. Scripture tells us in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” We know from experience, and echoed time and again throughout Scripture, that life is not guaranteed to be easy. In our imperfect days, with our imperfect jobs, how can we continue to follow, much less honor, a perfect God?

Eugene Peterson describes discipline as “a long obedience in the same direction.” Perhaps honoring the Lord through the works of our hands is something like that—a discipline, a choice, a commitment even when our emotions are awry and our bodies are tired. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord, whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” God’s character is unchanging—He loves when we give our all, even if through earthly eyes our offering looks measly compared to another’s (see Mark 12:41-44). Set your heart and mind on Christ. On especially hard days, put a visible reminder in front of you to remember the faithfulness of God. Don’t be afraid to step away and take a moment to pray—ask the Lord for the strength you do not have. Ask for wisdom, strength, and perseverance in the midst of adversity.

No problems, no failures, no weakness is too insignificant to present to our Creator. Commit to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.

REFLECTION

Take some time to reflect on Psalm 19:14. How might these words be an encouragement on hard days?

“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
- Psalm 19:14
